Short version:
Paula Standing produces acoustic folk songs with an old country twist and a sting in the tale. Both local and universal in songwriting and performance, what you hear, will not be what you expect.

Medium version:
Soulful vocals and powerful stories of ordinary and extraordinary people. Paula Standing takes everyday experiences and turns them into delicious tales with a sting. The human story is the most intricate and complex of all, but is often repeated and lessons often not learned ‘until it happens to us’. Overtones of influence from Joni Mitchell, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch echo through these haunting melodies.

Long version:

Life began in Far North Queensland for this folkie, but as a classically trained singer. Paula Standing tread the boards in musicals, operettas and choirs. After moving to SA, she began to explore new genres and eventually started penning her own songs. But recording only began in 2010 after teaching herself guitar. Swayed by the greats, EmmyLou Harris, Gillian Welch, John Prine and Joni Mitchell, Paula was drawn to the world of Folk with an old country twist.
